Unusually there are no stairs (up or down) to access the Upper Circle - from the somewhat plain door to the left you go along a short corridor and arrive directly between row E and F of the Upper Circle. It is almost an entirely separate auditorium that just happens to overlook the same stage, with it's own bar upstairs above the seats. To get to the Stalls or Dress Circle you go in the grander entrance on the right, and then descend several twisty and narrow staircases to the main auditorium, and invariably get stuck in a queue of people waiting in the increasingly narrow corridors. This is one theatre where the cheap seats are considerably easier to access than the expensive ones!
The theatre shares a canopy and access road with the adjacent Savoy Hotel, which reopened on 10-10-10 after several years' refurbishment. Tonight, the hotel looked considerably quieter than it used to, in terms of customers coming in and out or taxis/limos arriving.
